Cornell University Library

  • Develops policy and procedures for describing digital collections in alignment with Cornell University Library’s diversity, inclusion, and belonging vision.

  • Arranges physical and digital collections in a manner that will facilitate research access and long-term preservation of the records, utilizing knowledge of the collection obtained through research and archival methodology. Performs extensive background research needed to understand the context of the archival collection.

  • Prepares detailed finding aids for use by scholars, using current technology and descriptive standards and techniques, including Encoded Archival Description (EAD). Prepares scope and content notes, bibliographical and historical summaries, content listings, and indexes.

  • Responds to in-person, e-mail, telephone, and mail reference inquiries, using broad and general knowledge of collections. Searches local and national databases for information pertaining to materials which may be complex due to language, format, subject, or publication pattern.

  • Fosters classroom and research use by Cornell faculty and students and others through tours, instruction sessions, and public presentations in consultation with subject experts.

  • Works on improving Cornell University Library’s commitment diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB) both within the library system as a whole and the Rare and Manuscripts Collection division through service on several task forces and committees.

  • Preserves born-digital materials for future research and access through digital forensics and capture.

  • Catalogs visual resources for the Human Sexuality Collection, such as those of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF), to improve description and access for researchers.
